More than 70 competitors have signed up so far for the 34th annual Lake of the Ozarks Shootout taking place next week—August 27-28—in Central Missouri. By way of comparison, 13 racers had pre-registered for the top-speed contest on the three-quarter-mile course at this time last year. Driven by first-year executive director Leah Martin, a Shootout volunteer for the past 12 years, the efficiency of online registration certainly has contributed to the record-setting number and pace of early sign-ups. “It’s just a bigger year in general,” Martin said.

A longtime supporter of the happening at the sponsorship and organizational levels, Mark Maasen of Lake of the Ozarks-based Poly Lift Boat Lifts agreed.

“It’s going to be an epic year for the Shootout and its charities,” said Maasen, who is going to be inducted into the Bob Morgan Memorial Hall of Fame next Tuesday night (August 23) at the Lighthouse in Sunrise Beach.
