our history

Born from a passion for racing

MTI President and founder Randy Scism’s career in high-performance boating began more than 20 years before the creation of Marine Technology Inc. Starting behind the wheel of a 20-foot Hydrostream Vulture, Randy quickly progressed into larger and faster catamarans, developing a passion for offshore racing, performance, and boat design.

In the early 1990s, Randy played an instrumental role in starting the Victory Team in Abu Dhabi, serving as General Manager and Class 1 throttleman. Victory Team went on to become one of the most recognized names in international offshore powerboat racing, competing throughout the UIM Class 1, Class 2, and Class 3 racing series.

During his international racing career, Randy compiled an impressive record that included 10 race wins, 21 podium finishes, and a Class 1 World Championship in 1999. More importantly, his years with Victory gave him extensive hands-on experience in the design, engineering, construction, testing, and development of some of the world’s most advanced offshore racing catamarans.

Randy ultimately brought that experience and knowledge back to the United States and founded Marine Technology Inc. (MTI) in 1998. From the beginning, the company was built around the same principles that defined his racing career: performance, engineering, innovation, and an uncompromising approach to quality.

MTI initially focused on purpose-built race boats, applying proven offshore racing technology to its own designs. As the company grew, those race-bred platforms began evolving into high-performance pleasure boats, combining the speed, handling, and engineering of competition boats with the comfort, styling, and usability owners wanted for recreational boating.

That evolution became a defining part of MTI’s identity. Rather than separating racing technology from pleasure boating, MTI used its competition experience as the foundation for developing increasingly sophisticated performance boats for its customers.

Another major milestone came in 2014 with the launch of the MTI 42V, marking MTI’s expansion into the high-performance center-console market. The 42V brought the engineering philosophy and performance heritage developed through decades of offshore catamaran racing into an entirely new platform. It combined MTI performance and handling with the versatility, passenger capacity, and usability of a luxury center console.

The introduction of the 42V helped establish the foundation for the MTI center-console lineup we know today and represented the next stage in the company’s evolution.

From Randy Scism’s earliest days in offshore racing to the development of today’s MTI catamarans and center consoles, the company’s history has remained rooted in the same philosophy: use racing experience, innovative engineering, and advanced construction to continually push the boundaries of performance boating.

our community

When you buy an MTI, you get far more than just a boat, you join a boating family. The MTI community is a shared passion and lifestyle that brings together owners from across the country and around the world to do what we love on the water.

join us

Throughout the year, MTI owners come together at fun runs, poker runs, boat shows, races, and exclusive MTI events in some of the country’s premier boating destinations. These experiences give owners the opportunity to enjoy their boats alongside others who share the same enthusiasm for performance, innovation, and life on the water. From organized runs and dockside gatherings to dinners and family events, the relationships built through MTI have become an important part of the ownership experience.

At the heart of the MTI community is a strong sense of family. Many customers have been part of MTI for years, progressing through different boats as their families and boating lifestyles evolve. Customers become friends, families grow up together, and the next generation is introduced to boating through the same community their parents have enjoyed.
That connection also extends to the people behind the boats. MTI takes pride in maintaining personal relationships with its customers—from the initial design and build process through delivery, service, events, and future boats. Owners aren’t simply purchasing an MTI; they are becoming part of a community built around a shared passion.

More than a boat. More than a brand. MTI is a community built around performance, family, and a shared passion for life on the water.

what's new
We are loading up and pointing the trailers toward Clearwater Beach for the 2026 Clearwater Offshore Nationals, September 25 through 27. It is one of the marquee stops on the Race World Offshore calendar, part of the UIM World Championship Series and sanctioned by APBA, and the course sits right off the sand in the Gulf where the crowd can hear every pass. Our Class 1 program will be out there in the 48-footer with Willy Cabeza driving and Johnny Tomlinson on the throttles, twin Mercury Racing 1100s behind them, running with the fastest boats in the sport. That is a pairing we are proud to put in our boat. Willy has been building this program lap by lap all season, and Johnny brings more than 160 race wins and a reigning world championship to the right seat. Friday is test and tune and a chance to meet the teams, Saturday and Sunday are when it counts.
