Mercury Marine employees in Fond du Lac, Wis., donated and raised more than $12,000 for its annual Fill the Boat to Cast Out Hunger food drive earlier this week. The news was announced in a press release from the marine engine and accessories company.

Now in its eighth year, the event raises money and food for the Fondy Food Pantry.

“Each year our employees look forward to this event and each year I am amazed at the hard work and dedication by our team,” said Andres Gonzalez, Mercury Marine vice president of human resources, in the release. “To generate this kind of support for the Fondy Food Pantry in just one week, culminated with an event that brings our employees together is just incredible.”

To support the event, Mercury Marine employees bring in non-perishable food items and cash donations for a week. The food and donations are used to provide food assistance to thousands of individuals and families in the Fond du Lac area. The Fondy Food Pantry has been a “fixture in the community for close to 45 years,” the release stated.

Another element of this year’s event was the third annual Mercury Car and Motor Show, which enabled employees to showcase one of their automobiles. Display entry fees also were to the Fondy Food Pantry.

“Fond du Lac is our home, it is our community and it is where many of our employees live,” said Gonzalez. “We made a commitment not just to invest back in the business and grow in Fond du Lac, but to support the community and events like Fill the Boat are one of many examples of our employees working together to help the Fond du Lac community.”
